What SigenStor is
Sigenergy is a Shanghai-based company that listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in April 2026, according to Caixin, which reports it was founded in 2022. Its about page says it has more than 2,550 employees and sells in more than 120 countries.
The SigenStor product page describes a "5-in-one" system that combines a solar inverter, an EV DC charger, battery power electronics, battery packs and an energy management system. In practice, a home system has:
- An energy controller. This is the hybrid inverter that sits at the bottom of the stack and connects your panels, battery and household circuits.
- One to six battery modules stacked on top.
- A gateway that manages the switch between grid and backup.
- An optional DC charger module for an electric car.
- The mySigen app for monitoring and settings.
Sigenergy's product page also claims "0ms load side disruption" during a grid outage, an IP66 rating, and AI-assisted energy planning. These are manufacturer claims. The AI features matter less in South Africa, where most homes have no time-of-use tariff or paid export to optimise against, than they do in Europe or Australia.
Energy controller sizes
From Sigenergy's SigenStor specification page, checked on 26 October 2026:
| Single-phase controller | Three-phase controller |
|---|
| Rated output | 3kW to 12kW | 5kW to 30kW |
| MPPT voltage range | 50V to 550V | 160V to 1,000V |
| MPPTs | 2 to 4 | 2 to 4 |
| Current per MPPT | 16A | 16A |
| Battery modules per controller | 1 to 6 | 1 to 6 |
| Maximum efficiency | 97.6% to 98.0% | 98.1% to 98.4% |
| Enclosure | IP66 | IP66 |
The 16A per tracker limit matters with large modern panels, some of which exceed that current. Ask how the strings are designed.
Battery modules
Sigenergy has two generations of battery module. The older BAT 5.0 and 8.0 are the ones most South African articles, including our home battery guide, describe. The current global datasheet lists the BAT 6.0 and 10.0. The South African warranty covers all four.
| BAT 5.0 | BAT 8.0 | BAT 6.0 | BAT 10.0 |
|---|
| Total capacity | 5.38kWh | 8.06kWh | 6.02kWh | 9.04kWh |
| Usable capacity | 5.2kWh | 7.8kWh | 5.84kWh | 8.76kWh |
| Continuous power | 2.5kW | 4.0kW | 3.0kW | 4.6kW |
| Weight | 55kg | 70kg | 62kg | 78kg |
Sources: Sigenergy's Sigen Battery 6.0/10.0 datasheet and the earlier Sigen Battery datasheet for the 5.0 and 8.0 (a distributor-hosted copy of the manufacturer document). All are LiFePO4, rated IP66 and for -20°C to 55°C operation, and can be floor-standing or wall-mounted.
Power per module is the figure to watch. One BAT 6.0 module gives 3kW continuous. A 10kW controller with one module is a 3kW system at night. With six BAT 8.0 modules a stack reaches 48.36kWh. Match the module count to the evening load you need to carry, not only to the hours of runtime. Our battery sizing guide shows how.
The EV charger option
Sigenergy's EV DC module datasheet lists 12.5kW and 25kW versions with a CCS2 plug. DC charging from the stack can move solar and battery energy into a car without a separate AC wallbox. It only adds value if you own, or will soon own, an electric car with a CCS2 port.
The South African warranty, read closely
Sigenergy publishes a Factory Limited Warranty for SigenStor (For South Africa), dated 10 June 2025, on its warranty page. It covers products installed from 1 June 2023.
| Component | Warranty |
|---|
| Energy controllers (single and three-phase) | 10 years |
| Battery modules (BAT 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0) | 10 years |
| DC EV charger (12.5kW and 25kW) | 3 years |
Battery cover: 10 years or a throughput limit
Sigenergy warrants that the battery keeps 60% of its usable energy for 10 years, or until it has delivered a set amount of energy, whichever comes first:
| Module | Usable energy | Minimum throughput |
|---|
| BAT 5.0 | 5.2kWh | 18.20MWh |
| BAT 6.0 | 5.84kWh | 20.44MWh |
| BAT 8.0 | 7.8kWh | 27.30MWh |
| BAT 10.0 | 8.76kWh | 30.66MWh |
For each module, the throughput figure equals 3,500 full cycles of its usable energy. A battery that does one full cycle every day uses that up in about 9.6 years. That is our arithmetic, not Sigenergy's. In plain terms, a battery cycled hard every day reaches the throughput limit slightly before the 10-year mark, and a backup-mostly battery will be limited by time instead. Our battery lifespan guide explains throughput warranties.
Conditions that can shorten the cover
- It must stay online. The warranty says the system must stay connected to the internet for firmware updates. After more than 90 days offline it enters "Safe Operation Mode". If it is offline for more than a year in total, "the warranty coverage will adjust to 5 years from the original activation date." Plan for reliable Wi-Fi or a mobile data link at the stack's location, and keep it running during long outages.
- Claim within 30 days. Claims are made through the mySigen app, and Sigenergy says a claim not made within 30 days of the failure date is treated as abandoned.
- Installers are the service channel. The warranty calls distributors, installers and service companies Sigenergy's "default service channel". Your installer's support matters as much as the manufacturer's.
- Exclusions include improper installation, repairs by people Sigenergy has not authorised, equipment not supplied by Sigenergy, lightning and over-voltage, and exceeding the temperature range.
Sigenergy lists a South African sales line and a service line (+27 11 087 7916, [email protected]) on its contact page, but no South African street address.
Is SigenStor NRS 097-2-1 approved?
You need an NRS 097-2-1 certified inverter to register a grid-connected system with Eskom or a municipality. The City of Cape Town's type-tested inverter list, dated 11 September 2026, includes:
- SigenStor EC SP (single-phase): 3.0, 3.6, 4.0, 4.6, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0
- SigenStor EC TP (three-phase): 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0, 12.0, 15.0, 17.0, 20.0, 25.0 and 30
- SigenStor Neo EC TP: 3.0 to 15.0
- the separate Sigen Hybrid SP inverters: 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0
That is broad coverage. Still ask for the certificate for the exact controller on your quote and confirm your distributor accepts it. Our SSEG registration guide explains the process.

What SigenStor costs
We found no South African retailer listing a price for individual SigenStor components. One Gauteng installer, Synergy Energy Solutions, publishes installed SigenStor packages, VAT included, with SSEG registration quoted separately. On 26 October 2026 it listed:
| Package | Inverter | Battery | Panels | Listed price |
|---|
| Essential Backup | 6kW | 6kWh | None | R74,500 |
| Solar Starter | 6kW | 6kWh | 6 | R99,529 |
| Home Plus | 8kW | 9kWh | 10 | R134,840 |
| Premium (three-phase) | 15kW | 18kWh | 14 | R219,852 |
These are one company's listed prices, not quotes, and other installers will price differently. They show the shape of the decision: SigenStor is a premium system, and for a single-phase home that only needs essential backup, a conventional 5kW hybrid with one battery usually costs less. Our solar inverter prices guide shows typical equipment prices for comparison.
Who SigenStor suits
A good fit if:
- You have a three-phase supply and want backup on all three phases. The three-phase controllers run to 30kW, and our three-phase solar guide explains when that matters.
- You want a large battery that can grow. Stacking up to six modules per controller is simpler than adding mismatched batteries later.
- You own or plan to buy an electric car with a CCS2 port and want to charge it from solar.
- You want one manufacturer behind the inverter and battery, with a 10-year warranty on both.
- Space is tight or the location is outdoors. The IP66 stack is compact and rated for outdoor mounting.
Think twice if:
- You only need essential-load backup on a single-phase supply. You pay for capabilities you won't use.
- Your internet is unreliable at the installation spot. The warranty depends on the system staying online.
- You want to mix in another brand's battery later. SigenStor is a closed system built around its own modules.
- Your installer has not installed SigenStor before. Sigenergy relies on installers as its service channel.
If you are comparing all-in-one systems, our AlphaESS vs Sunsynk guide covers the matched-system versus modular trade-off, and the best solar inverter guide sets out our shortlist and criteria.

Frequently asked questions
Is SigenStor available in South Africa?
Yes. Sigenergy lists South African sales and service numbers, its 2026 partner awards name a South African distributor, Herholdt's Group, and its controllers appear on the City of Cape Town's NRS 097-2-1 list. It is sold and installed through local installers.
What is the SigenStor warranty in South Africa?
Sigenergy's South African warranty gives 10 years on the energy controllers and battery modules and 3 years on the DC EV charger. Batteries must keep 60% of usable energy for 10 years or until a set throughput, whichever comes first. If the system is offline for more than a year in total, cover drops to 5 years.
How much does a SigenStor system cost?
We found no retail component prices. One Gauteng installer listed installed packages from R74,500 for 6kW with 6kWh and no panels, and R134,840 for 8kW, 9kWh and 10 panels, on 26 October 2026. These are listed prices, not quotes.
Can I add batteries to SigenStor later?
Yes, within limits. Each controller takes one to six battery modules, according to Sigenergy's specifications. Adding modules later needs an installer and should use a module type the system supports.
Is SolarGuide the installer?
No. SolarGuide is an independent referral publisher. Alumo supplies, installs, finances and warrants the systems it agrees to install, and we help you compare options and request a free quote. Pricing is indicative and subject to a site assessment and credit approval.
